One-Line Definitions of All Parts of Speech

Noun

Noun is the name of anything.

For example: Bag, city, home, fish, boy, Kamran etc.


Pronoun

A word that is used in place of a noun.

For example: I, we, you, he, she, they, it etc.

Verb

A word that shows an action.

For example: go, play, read, singing, took etc.

Adverb

A word that describes a verb. (It also describes an adjective and another adverb.)

For example:
He writes slowly.
They were walking briskly.

Adjective

A word that that describes a noun or pronoun.

For example: good, bad, long, short etc.

Conjunction

A word that connects nouns, pronouns and clauses.

For example: and, or, but, if etc.


Interjection

A word that is used to express a feeling.

For example: Ah!, Hurrah! Ouch! etc.

Preposition

A word that comes together with a noun, pronoun or verb and creates a phrase.

For example: in, out, up, down, of, off, on etc.
